Big Wheels Keep on Rollin

I finally "Drank the Kool-Aid" and joined the 29er movement about a decade late. I got this bike a couple of weeks ago and have not really had much saddle time on it. I am really excited to dial it in and put it through the paces. The brief time I have spent on it, I am able to see some of the benefits to having a 29er. I am super stoked to take this bike out this coming weekend and ride with my good friends. I will most likely use this bike for shorter races and/or supplimental 24 hour bike. I can't even think of getting rid of my Giant, that bike is simply awesome. It is crazy how big the wheels look compared to my 26er.

Mellow Johnny's Classic Race Course

So.......
I finally signed up for a shorter XC race and I picked a good one. The Mellow Johnny's Classic was an awesome event to be part of. It was held at the Juan Pelota ranch, aka Lance's Ranch. My race started at 11am, and it was hovering around 90 degrees and 90% humidity. The pace of my group was out of control, everyone wanting to do good at this large venue. It was hilly, dusty, fast and a great learning experience for me... Not nearly the same pace as you would attach a 24hr. race. Half my field did not finish this 24 mile race due to the heat, crashing or flats. I am really looking forward to doing more races later this season, this left a very positive taste in my mouth and now I am hungry....

Toyota Prius HID light issue

Today i had to change out my headlights on my car. It is only 3 years old and has the upgraded HID lights (which i was told should last longer than halogen). I started to Google this issue and found that like other things of late Toyota DOES know about this issue and was doing nothing to fix it. There are hundreds of complaints opened on this very issue. The cost Toyota is charging to replace the lights is ridiculous ($300 a bulb and $600 Labor = $1200 total). Rather than shelling out $1200 bucks to get my lights fixed I looked around the web for other options. I found the bulbs on Ebay from a headlight seller for $60 a pair, same type of bulb Toyota sells. I started to look at how to replace the lights and I learned that you need to remove the whole front of the car to get to the lights. This involved basically ripping the front of the car off. I looked further and found a post that told you exactly how to fix the issue. I could not believe it....There are tons of you tube videos out there showing guys ripping of the front of the car to replace the lights, but this guy said you did not have to do that. I read his instructions and took a mirror i use for shaving out of my bathroom. Armed with a screwdriver and a mirror I was able to remove both headlight bulbs and install the new bulbs in around 45 minutes.... now that I know what I am doing I could do it in less than 15 minutes. I can't believe Toyota is taking advantage of people like that. If anyone has a Toyota Prius with HID lights that are starting flicker and cut off and on, let me know. I can show you how to fix the issue for $60. Sure beats the $1200 that Toyota is charging their customers. Google it. It blows my mind.

Rollers?

This is great!

Good Start

What better way to start your day than meeting a great friend, having some good coffee and getting all your work done before 9am. Thurnderbird Coffee is a great little place. I am really looking forward to the weekend. The weather is perfect, it is going to be good.

training time

With daylight savings time just around the corner, I am stoked to get off this trainer sitting in my living room and ride outside. I miss being in the woods. For the last three weeks I have been working with a coach getting ready for the 2010 season. I don't know what is in store, but if things keep going like they are it can only be good :)
